Tacos de Asador (Grill tacos)

My husband and I love Tacos and we could have them all day everyday! So I wanted to recreate the same at home and they came out so well that I wanted to share the recipe with you. I’ve made this 3 times already and even though it’s quite a process and requires a lot of ingredients, it’s worth every moment of time spent!!! You can try this out during a weekend or when you have your friends over for dinner. I had once cooked the meat in some red wine and it was quite flavorful and tender. For marinating the meat :

  • Choice of meat – 1 kg (steak cut)
  • Orange juice – 1 whole 
  • Lemon juice – 1 whole
  • Garlic – 3 cloves, minced 
  • Cilantro – 5 sprigs, chopped 
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon 
  • Ground black pepper – 1 teaspoon
  • Olive oil – 1 tablespoon 
  • Vinegar – 1 tablespoon 

Taco seasoning recipe found in ‘Homemade Spices & Condiments’

Pico de gallo:

  • Ripe tomatoes – 2 large
  • Jalapenos – 1 whole (remove half the seeds)
  • Serrano chillies – 1 (use the seeds if you prefer more heat)
  • Red Onions – ½ , medium 
  • White onions or spring onions – ½ cup, chopped 
  • Cilantro – a handful
  • Garlic – 2 cloves, minced
  • Juice of 1 lime 
  • Salt to taste 
  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons 

Salsa roja picante: 

  • Ripe tomatoes – 2 large 
  • Red Onions – ¼ , medium 
  • Jalapenos  – 1 (or) green chillies – 2 
  • Dried kashmiri red chillies 
  • Garlic – 2 cloves 
  • Chopped Cilantro – a pinch 
  • Salt to taste 

Other ingredients:

  • Guerroro’s corn tortillas (I used gluten-free)
  • Red radish – 5 , chopped 
  • Red onions – 1 chopped
  • White onions – ½ chopped
  • Cilantro – a handful chopped 
  • Lemon wedges 
  • White onion wedges (for grilling) – 1 whole onion 
  • Oil for roasting – 4 tablespoons (in total)
Street tacos


  1. Marinate the meat in all the ingredients listed under ‘marinade’ for 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator. While cooking the meat, use a grill pan to sear on all sides for 10 to 15 minutes with 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Slice the meat into short thin strips and sear them again on the grill pan. Add 2 tablespoons of Taco seasoning (recipe on the blog) and cook well on high heat for 5 minutes. Keep aside


If you struggle cooking with steaks, then you can mince the meat using a sharp knife and grill the marinated meat on the pan using 2 tablespoons of oil. Saute for 10 minutes till the meat is tender. Finally add  the taco seasoning and mix well. 

2.To make Pico de Gallo : Add all the ingredients listed to a blender and pulse a few times until chunky. Don’t grind to a smooth paste. It needs to be chunky or you can just chop all the ingredients and mix them together and let it sit for half an hour for the flavors to come together. Serve chilled in a bowl. 

3. To make Salsa Roja Picante: Roast the tomatoes, onions, garlic, jalapenos and dried red chillies in a grill pan until they’re charred on all sides.( It takes about 10 minutes on high heat), Cool them down and transfer the tomatoes, garlic and onions to the blender – add salt and cilantro and blend until smooth. Discard the stems from both green and red chillies and remove the blackened skin and the seeds (if you don’t prefer the heat). Add them to the blender and pulse it along with the tomatoes a few times until they resemble crushed flakes. Serve chilled in a bowl. 

4. Roast the onion wedges (listed under other ingredients) on a grill pan 1ith 1 tablespoon oil until soft and golden brown. Keep aside.

5.Warm the tortillas on the pan on both sides for 2 minutes. Don’t heat them too much as they need to be soft. 

To Assemble : Place a small portion of meat on each tortilla and add any one of your favorite salsas (pico de gallo , salsa roja picante). Top it with some chopped onions and cilantro. Sprinkle lemon juice over your tacos and have them with radish and roasted onions wedges. Enjoy your Taco Tuesdays! Buen Provecho ! 😀
